I believe that report says the opposite. I tried reproducing it by
switching to a VT, logging in, and typing
$ git a<TAB>
and indeed, the completion lists git commands instead of filenames.
Perhaps your /etc/profile is missing the relevant portion from the
copy installed by base-files; you can check with "grep profile.d
/etc/profile".
Thanks for a helpful reminder. Merging with the corresponding
base-files bug.
