Does chromium --temp-profile or chromium --disable-plugins avoid trouble? What is the nature of the hang --- can you move the mouse? toggle capslock? does Alt-Sysrq + R followed by Alt-F1 work? Alt-Sysrq + S, U, B? [do not try this last one without knowing what "magic sysrq" means, please] can you ssh in from another machine? Is the hard drive light on?
