EPS handling at present is unusable, especially in impress. In order to handle EPS openoffice spawns /usr/bin/convert, converts the image to a JPG and displays the JPG. So far so good. The JPG however is not cached properly. As a result openoffice will respawn on convert every few minutes for all EPS images in a document even if none of the images is modified in the meantime. The bug is more pronounced in impress. There 3 EPS graphics in a 8 slide presentation render openoffice sitting and waiting for convert 75% of the time. Adding more than 3 is pretty much a suicide note. You can go and take a coffee between each page-up/page-down or new line (on a fairly reasonable Athlon 64).
