root@paperino:~# dpkg -l acroread
[...]
ii  acroread                 9.4.2-0.0                Adobe Acrobat
Reader: Portable Document Format file viewer

about:plugins on chromium

about:plugins on iceweasel
shows both mozplugger and acroread and in /etc/mozpluggerrc i can see
the following lines:

[...]
application/pdf:pdf:PDF file
application/x-pdf:pdf:PDF file
text/pdf:pdf:PDF file
text/x-pdf:pdf:PDF file
ACROREAD()
repeat noisy swallow(Xpdf) fill needs_xembed: xpdf -g +9000+9000 "$file"
repeat noisy swallow(okular) fill needs_xembed: okular "$file"
repeat noisy swallow(epdfview) fill needs_xembed: epdfview "$file"
GV()
repeat noisy swallow(evince) fill needs_xembed: evince "$file"
[...]

and in fact:
http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/iceweaselusaacrobat.php

looking at the above, if i'm not mistaken, mozplugger acts just like a
wrapper!
i wonder how could it handle the pdf files when i uninstalled
epdfview, acroread and gv!!!!

well, it's much lighter than acroread and it's the heir of Xpdf (which
i've used for ten years!)
