Package: dovecot-common Version: 1:2.0.12-1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream
The configuration file format for dovecot changes far, far too often. I just upgraded my server and ended up spending a significant amount of time converting to the new configuration. This was exacerbated by an actual bug (which will be filed shortly, I promise) that was difficult to discover because I couldn't tell what was a configuration error and what was the bug. Every format change to the configuration files ends up wasting a large amount of sysadmin time that could be better spent elsewhere. This is not a wishlist request; it is a genuine bug that dovecot cannot (for whatever reason) have a fixed file format between patchlevel versions, and I believe it should be fixed. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- brian m. carlson / brian with sandals: Houston, Texas, US +1 832 623 2791 | http://www.crustytoothpaste.net/~bmc | My opinion only OpenPGP: RSA v4 4096b: 88AC E9B2 9196 305B A994 7552 F1BA 225C 0223 B187
