Thank you for your considerations and the pointer to the patch. I included parts of it into ARB stable at http://bugs.arb-home.de/changeset/7486 I added 'editor' to 'arb_textedit' but still with low priority, since arb can't know whether it's an X-editor, so it has to open a xterm to run the editor inside. The default for 'editor' on my kubuntu here is 'nano' and nano completely fails to run properly in an xterm. So this seens not an option (or at least not the best option). Sticking with 'gedit' and 'kate' (added by [7486]) IMO is fine for arb users.
