A quick fix for this bug (IMHO in seahorse)

Apparently seahorse does not currently support X.509 certificates and
if Gnome Keyring has started its GPG Agent claws-mail will fail using
S/MIME.

To fix this disable GPG Password Agent in Startup Applications
Preferences and stick to
http://www.claws-mail.org/faq/index.php/S/MIME_howto.

A: One. Only it's his light bulb when he's done.
