I'm trying to fix the bugs of bridge-utils before uploading the new version
and a long time has passed since you filled this bug on Debian:

I'd like to know if squeeze is still having this bug or if upgrading to
squeeze solved the problem for you.
If the problem still exists I'll need some more info from you so that I can
try to replicate the problem, as I have not been able to do it up to now.
Otherwise I'll have to close the problem as I really believe that this was
not at all related to bridge-utils but some other component installed on
your system.
