We can fix that by making the 2 strings really independant but you actually switched that from "<error> (<desc>)" to "<error> for <desc>". The former was better to avoid weird-sounding sentences. Just don't let me distract you too much from the goal of merging multi-arch (I know the buffer api changes are part of preliminary changes required for further cleaning of the multiarch branch though).
