I may have misunderstood you about the issue.

Issue 1)
 The crash. Yes that is a problem with IMP.

Issue 2)
 All folders are subfolders to INBOX.
 This is a bug/feature/nonfeature/whatever in courier. Tomas Fasth have tried
 to get a solution to this into the upstream code but upstream want it like this
 as far as I have understood it.

I'm not sure if you have a problem to both the issues or just one.
