Hello,
I experienced the same behaviour in Squeeze after a my first
installation. I couldn't play the default score and when I tried to save
it the "mscore.real" process used 100% of the CPU load. I solved it by
unchecking the "Portaudio" option from the "I/O" tab, in the
"Preferences" menu. Consequently I'm now able to play the "promenade"
score and the "Save As..." option do not freeze MuseScore anymore.

I'm experiencing this bug too, on Wheezy.
Here the output:

no audio output found
Portaudio close stream failed: Invalid stream pointer
init audio driver failed
sequencer init failed
2cannot parse <1.0>
registerPlugin: add action idx 8
Load plugin: no menu property
preferences.checkUpdateStartup: 720

In fact audio doesn't work.
