YES. It works. How did you figure out that 'upowerd' was causing the problem?!?!? If I kill it the flickering goes away. But some DE actions restart it. eg. If I click on the 'log out' button of Xfce 4.8 it restarts upowerd even if I cancel the dialog afterwards. Anyway, this bug should be reported for upowerd probably. Thanks.
