A short note for myself and other people who may have stumbled over this bug: As mentioned in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523910, setting signon.startup.prompt to false in about:config is a possible workaround, suitable at least for those who don't use iceape for mail or news. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338549 has more gory details.
