I seem to be running into the same issue as Christian. Upon plugging in
a ntfs usb disk I get the same gnome window that pops up:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
Error opening '/dev/sdb1': Permission denied
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Permission denied
Please check '/dev/sdb1' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged
It looks like I'm in the correct groups (correct me if I'm wrong).
fes@fes-laptop:~$ groups
fes adm disk cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev netdev bluetooth
lpadmin fuse scanner
Mounting manually on the commandline with sudo works fine.
This happens on a freshly installed squeeze i386 system.
Cheers,
Frederic
