Package: gparted Version: 0.7.0-1 Severity: normal > Are you sure that you can simply "cat </dev/random >/dev/sdg" on your > GNU/Linux distribution?
Huh? Of course, I"m sure. % l /dev/sdd brw-rw---- 1 root floppy 8, 48 21 jan 13:29 /dev/sdd % id uid=<NN>(monnier) gid=<NN>(monnier) groupes=..,<NN>(floppy),... % In the mean time, the symptom has changed slightly: now if I try to run "gparted /dev/sdd" I'm told "Inhibit all polling failed: Only uid 0 is authorized to inhibit the daemon". Yet "udisks --inhibit-polling /dev/sdd" seems to work OK, and even if it fails, it's no reason to deny me access to gparted. Then via `strace' I figured that I can run gpartedbin to circumvent the udisks polling problem, at which point I see that rather than a mere "you must be root", gparted now wastes his time giving me a big dialog box (saying the same thing as before, tho with more words) to which I can only say "OK" which means "accept defeat". Please, please, pretty please, fix gparted so that it doesn't restrict access more than `cat' does. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.36-rc6-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_CH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_CH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gparted depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-8 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.2-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.24.2-1 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a 1:2.20.3-1 C++ wrappers for GTK+ (shared libr ii libpangomm-1.4-1 2.26.2-1 C++ Wrapper for pango (shared libr ii libparted0debian1 2.3-5 The GNU Parted disk partitioning s ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.2.4.2-1 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 Versions of packages gparted recommends: ii gksu 2.0.2-5 graphical frontend to su Versions of packages gparted suggests: pn dmraid <none> (no description available) ii dmsetup 2:1.02.48-4 The Linux Kernel Device Mapper use ii dosfstools 3.0.9-1 utilities for making and checking pn jfsutils <none> (no description available) pn kpartx <none> (no description available) ii ntfsprogs 2.0.0-1+b1 tools for doing neat things in NTF pn reiser4progs <none> (no description available) pn reiserfsprogs <none> (no description available) pn xfsprogs <none> (no description available) ii yelp 2.30.1+webkit-1 Help browser for GNOME -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
