For the restless, an unofficial package can be built from source with the "python-stdeb" package. I located this info while doing research, after an upgrade to python 2.6 broke spambayes training.
Build your custom 1.1a6 spambayes against python 2.5 for better results.

For me (using Squeeze), the following dependencies beyond a default python install were required for final dpkg installation:

python2.5
python2.5-minimal
python-setuptools
python-central
python-pkg-resources
python-dns
python-lockfile
