A very similar bug was filed on alpha which appears to be a problem in glibc - it's http://bugs.debian.org/231593 - this sounds like the same thing. Could you please generate a strace of ypbind when it's doing this (you can use the '-p' option to attach to a running process) and send the results to the bug log?
