I have tried to reproduce this bug with wv 1.2.4. I tried to convert your MS Word file with "wvText <input file> <output file>" and "wvPDF <input file> <output file>". I received corrupt output as you did, I am attaching an archive with the files.
At first, wvPDF told that it needed a program called "latex" and quited.
There is no package with that name, so I installed texlive to get some TeX
tools. That brought the application "latex" too. After that, wvPDF converted
the file with following error message:
sh-3.2$ wvPDF Workshop\ 1\ -\ Contents.doc contents.pdf

Some problem running latex.
Check for Errors in contents.log

As I mentioned before, a corrupt PDF file was created. The file contents.log
is in the archive as well.
