I'm also interested in seeing bitcoin packaged for Debian, and hope you will get a package uploaded soon.
What about uploading the current package into experimental, to increase the visibility and allow the Debian QA infrastructure to look at the package? I would be perfectly happy with the console version, and do not want to wait until a newer wxWidgeds package is in Debian. As JSON Spirit is missing in Debian, I suspect the embedded copy will not be seen as a reason to reject the package by the ftpmasters.
