Thanks for your work on this.You are quite welcome to apply the changes directly to the cdbs Git in collab-maint of Alioth.
If you do so, then please commit code changes first, with a comment useful in the changelog entry - and then (optionally) afterwards another commit updating changelog (e.g. using "git dch -a" and perhaps manual polishing).
Also, would be nice to emit a warning if existing pycompat file is found, recommending to remove it (I find it wrong of us to remove it unconditionally: even if we added it automatically until now, the user might have added it herself and for some odd reason want to keep it).
