libavutil is a helper library, hence its existence has very little meaning separate of libavcodec. Since the libraries are only static, there was really no reason to create a new package, and libavutil is included in the libavcodec-dev package. > application statically linked with libavcodec/libavformat will not > build any more because of missing symbols not found in any library.
