During installation, a somewhat misleading error message is given: Setting up ejabberd (2.1.5-2) ... adduser: Warning: The home directory `/var/lib/ejabberd' does not belong to the user you are currently creating. Generating SSL certificate /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.pem... Creating config file /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg with new version Starting jabber server: ejabberd. In the end however: /var/lib/ejabberd is owned by ejabberd:ejabberd.
