it works on sarge (although back then, aptitude didn't know the -q
option), lenny and sid; i currently don't have a squeeze box at hand but
i don't think there is reason to assume it doesn't.

"apt-get -q -s -f upgrade" works for me (it does print a warning note at
the top about locking, but we don't expect transactional logic anyway,
do we?), and at least on my sid box, apt-dater works even after setting
DPKGTOOL=apt-get and removing said GETROOT line.
