You're right, 'localhost' should not be there, but the line ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback in /etc/hosts was set by netcfg during my Debian installation. The same error has also happened in Ubuntu using the Debian Installer according to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/285132 I discoverred this because I had a similar problem with the python SimpleHTTPServer as they had with Apache.
