Last chance: are you really sure you tried with a gnome app? can you please try with gedit or with a gnome-* app? Anyhow, I doubt it's a bug in reportbug, but I think in the comm/setup between your 2 boxes. The "request_code 148" error seems related to XInputExtension, so maybe the keyboard or so.
