Package: bsmtpd Version: 2.3pl8b-16 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss
sbsmtp will gladly ignore any error-exit status codes from UUX, and proceed to act as if mail was corretly delivered. If backups are enabled, that means the batch ends up in the bak dir for a while, if the admin notices it, no data is lost permanently. Otherwise, mail goes to /dev/null without any sort of error messages, anywhere. Unless uux is told to do it itself, somehow. No errors are logged anywhere. They only hint of a problem is found on the Debug log. logs: /var/log/bsmtp/Debug: * 1608:171702:31295 /usr/lib/bsmtp/sbsmtp (sbsmtp 2.3pl8bMS) ready * uid()=108, euid()=108 * 1608:171702:31295 accepted bparm: default 100000 /bin/gzip rbsmtp * 1608:171702:31295 spoolfile is /var/spool/bsmtp/out/khazad-dum * 1608:171702:31295 lockfile is /var/spool/bsmtp/out/khazad-dum.lck * 1608:171702:31295 lock "/var/spool/bsmtp/out/khazad-dum.lck" * 1608:171702:31295 open log "/var/log/bsmtp/Log" suceeded * 1608:171702:31295 using default bparm. * 1608:171702:31295 open pipe "/bin/gzip | /usr/bin/uux - -gA -r khazad-dum!rbsmtp" /usr/bin/uux: /etc/uucp/sys:71: syntax error * 1608:171702:31295 unlock "/var/spool/bsmtp/out/khazad-dum.lck" * 1608:171702:31295 filesize: 12852 uux output (direct call): echo foo | /usr/bin/uux - -gA -r 'khazad-dum!rbsmtp' ; echo $? /usr/bin/uux: /etc/uucp/sys:71: syntax error 69 This is a ridiculous oversight on sbsmtp. It absolutely *MUST* handle errors correctly everywhere. I wonder what else bsmtp tries to call and never bothers to check before sending my mail to the bitbucket? -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12.5-debian2+atapassthru+bluesmoke+imq Locale: LANG=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages bsmtpd depends on: ii adduser 3.67 Add and remove users and groups ii dpkg 1.13.10 Package maintenance system for Deb ii libc6 2.3.5-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii logrotate 3.7.1-1 Log rotation utility ii postfix 2.2.4-1 A high-performance mail transport ii uucp 1.07-12 Unix to Unix Copy Program bsmtpd recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
