This particular problem seems to be easily fixable, but is it worth the

The package seems to be unused, lacks support for sphinx syntax, etc.

So I think a removal request for this package might be a good idea. Please
correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree. I we don't hear from the maintainer in 2 weeks, I'll request removal of python-gendoc from unstable.
