Hmm, I just did a very quick try on mktexlsr and just added "set -e" at the very beginning, expecting a longer session of debugging -- but it just works!? If somebody can give me a few usage scenarios for fmtutil (i.e., proper command lines) I'll happily try out that as well, but at the moment this doesn't seem to be as painful as expected!?
