Package: fstab ?? Version: Debian Squeeze - latest While booting Debian does not recognize the external USB-harddisk. It is not mounted. Using "mount -a" at the console/terminal afterwards however immediately solves it: the external HD is then mounted and can be fully accessed (also remotely via SMB). I suggest that fstab (or the relevant parts/packages) waits long enough to correctly mount the external USB-drive correctly while booting. Strange: The same machine runs OK with Ubuntu (Ubuntu mounts the same USB-HD with the same fstab-settings automatically at bootup).
Further info: When setting the <pass> parameter in fstab to "2" for the external USB-HD the machine does not boot correctly at all anymore. Resetting to "0" solves that. I am using Linux debian 2.6.32-3-kirkwood #1 Sat Feb 27 14:27:55 UTC 2010 armv5tel GNU/Linux on a Sheevaplug.
