I 'third' this idea.
And I think you will save yourself some bug reports if you do this
before the freeze (i.e. prevent v3.1 from going into stable).
Personal reason:
There is a considerable bug with extract() in 3.1 (and 3.0.7 - see a.o.
http://groups.google.com/group/beautifulsoup/browse_thread/thread/92fc300f70ea36e2).
This bug is triggered by almost every script doing any serious parse
tree manipulation.
I don't know if it matters, but Ubuntu has a similar bug, set to
'confirmed' state.

That one is talking about providing a separate 3.1 package, but I
personally don't care if that's done. v3.0 is the leading bug free
branch for now.
