Package: manpages-dev Version: 3.05-1 Severity: normal
Since (probably) kernel 2.6, sys_ioperm also supports ports above 0x3ff, so that ioperm can be used for all ports from 0x0000 to 0xffff. But unfortunately, this change is not mentioned in the manpages, and they still say: - ioperm(2): "Only the first 0x3ff I/O ports can be specified in this manner. more ports, the iopl(2) system call must be used." - iopl(2): "This call is necessary to allow 8514-compatible X servers to run under Linux. Since these X servers require access to all 65536 I/O ports, the ioperm(2) call is not sufficient." Both is wrong with kernel 2.6. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.4 APT prefers stable Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages manpages-dev depends on: ii manpages 3.05-1 Manual pages about using a GNU/Lin manpages-dev recommends no packages.
