Please build petsc with --with-clanguage=C++ in the future. Some external libraries that depend on PETSc, like the Toolkit for Advanced Optimization, require this. It also does not (seem to) break anything and is the only change needed (in debian/rules) or anywhere else in the source, so making the change is almost trivial. Please note that my version number is a bit strange, because I needed another bugfix to PETSc as well, which is now included in the 3.1p0 release (which, on the other hand is incompatible with the above mentioned TAO, so I must backport the HDF5 fix from 3.1p0 to 3.0.0 anyway... frustrating).
