Package: extlinux
Version: 2:3.85+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

First of all, update-extlinux is a much-needed addition to this package,
thanks for the effort! Unfortunately, it does not leave any room for
personal customization, like selecting the user interface or adding
custom menu entries. Overwriting extlinux.conf is a no-go in my opinion.

Actually, I pretty much like the solution used in update-grub...
If you want to avoid munging configuration files, a template system would
be more appropriate, I think. That would make most settings in
/etc/default/extlinux obsolete as well. The question of version specific
overrides is something to consider carefully.

As a concrete problem, currently each stanza has "menu default", which
isn't allowed (or sensible).

I'd be glad to help on this front, but decided to probe your intentions
before diving in.

Thanks,
Feri.
