I found a very similar bugreport on the freedesktop bugzilla and added my own
information, see http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24857. Does it
still make sense to create a bugreport against the debian xserver-xorg-video-
radeon and/or libdrm-radeon1 packages?

Well, the current blender 2.5 is an alpha-0 version after all. It is quite
usable, but at the same time it is far from stable and has missing stuff when
compared to 2.49b. So also from that perspective I don't think it is ready
enough. As I understand there will be another alpha in the coming weeks and
then after some time a proper release ( http://www.blendernation.com/blender-
developer-meeting-minutes-february-14-2010 ). The first 'proper' blender with
the new codebase is supposed to be finished by the middle of this year.

Maybe it is a good idea to wait for the first beta before moving to unstable
and hope that the X situation has improved by then...

Thanks,
Gerrit Jan.
