I followed your advise and upgraded my kernel to vanilla 2.6.32.8. The problem persists in all detail (only that I lost all my "old" xterms). On the other hand the kernel upgrade only worsened the situation in many other aspects (#545163, #569314, ...). Do you have any other ideas on how to debug this problem?
