Well, I'm not sure I'm sending this to the right bug any longer.

My problem was the blank screen more that segfaults.

I've now compiled three more kernels, and it doesn't seem much related to
efifb.
It may be inteldrmfb not understanding that I have a lvds .

If I compile a kernel like linux-image-2.6.32-686 but without the vesafb and
efifb
I can boot in text mode but not start X.

If I compile a custom kernel for my laptop, without initrd and so on it's the
same.

If I compile that configuring drm, agpart, etc. and i915 as <y>, not <m> and
pass it video=i915
the lvds is blank, but I get the console on external monitor. Without external
monitor
it seems to hang.

In any case I can see X in the lvds if I open and close the lid twice before
starting X
(or after starting X if I press ctrl-alt-backspace to restart gdm).

So it just seems that my hardware is not reporting properly the fact that the
lvds is
connected (or the lid open). I'm trying to add an exception like the one that's
there
in intel_lvds.c for my laptop and see if it helps.

So, sorry if this wasn't the right bug to comment on.
