The issue also breaks the calltips, resulting in an Exception in tkinter. Root cause is the incompatibility of python2.5 with tcl8.5, which is the version of tcl used by python-tk in squeeze. Support for tcl8.5 won't be backported to python2.5. A patch fixing at least idle is available on the link above, but it is unclear if it will break other programs: The patch needs to be applied against the idlelib, which is part of the python package.
