emacs23 starts with a completely different geometry than emacs22 did (and does), which is completely unusable - the minibuffer is outside the screen. I've configured the intended geometry in ~/.Xresources: $ grep Emacs .Xresources Emacs*geometry: 122x40+0+0 Emacs23*geometry: 122x40+3+0 Emacs.font-latex-sedate-face.attributeForeground: blue With the setting of "Emacs*geometry: 122x58+0+0", emacs22 started with a window of a size that leaves some space on the screen. In order to get a similar hight with emacs23, I need to start it with emacs23 --geometry=122x45+0+0 However, even with the settings above in ~/.Xresources, emacs23 starts with this absurdly large size. A side note: The font used in gnus is different, too - I'm not sure whether this is related, since I have not configured that in .Xresources (actually I don't know where). However, the font seems to be larger and have a larger height.
