It's been another year; would you reconsider carrying the PIE patches in Debian gdb again? AFAICT, RedHat, SUSE, and Ubuntu all use the patches. I've ported what I could from the RedHat patches[1] into Ubuntu[2] and it's mostly working (it's not perfect, of course).
