and I just reproduced this right now.
Now with libswt-gtk-3.5-java installed, if I do a "aptitude reinstall
libswt-gtk-3.5-java" I get the symlink. It looks like the symlink is
being moved from an alternatives-based symlink to a conf-file based
symlink, perhaps the problem is in that transition.

I can't tell for sure, but seems that *might* be an uninstallation
problem with swt-gtk 3.4, or something wrong with your system, because
as far as I concerned, the link is there:
