Package: dhcp3-client
Version: 3.1.3-1
Severity: minor
Hi,
dhclient doesn't send the hostname by default to the DHCP server (on a
freshly installed Debian system with cdebootstrap). That means that
freshly installed Debian machines can't be found by their names on a
network where the local DNS uses those DHCP names (e.g. in most homes
with ADSL model-router, like nearly everyone in France).
Of course it's possible to modify the dhclient.conf to duplicate the
hostname there, but:
- it's non-obvious for beginners
- it means the hostname has to be set a several places
Would it be possible for dhclient to automatically send the hostname ?
It's the case in other distributions I tried (Ubuntu & Fedora).
Thanks,
Xav
