Unfortunately in the specific case of proftpd, the autoconf scripts (which are not automake based) rely specifically onto the local library. After some trials on my side with some extended patches, it is now able to use the system-wide library but as one can expect it fails on linking. To be short, the internal libtool scripts need to be in sync - as one can expect - with the libltdl and a relibtoolization is required at every new libtool release. Too bad. I'm not happy of having to run autotools at every build or maintaining another ugly autoconf patch of such a kind. -- Francesco P.
