did you consider using jsvc to start / stop Tomcat 5?
No, not yet. However I am more investigating how to
remove the jsvc/commons-daemon dependency from building tomcat5
as jsvc is architecture dependent and not buildable on all
debian architectures.
So jsvc will not be (as far as I can see) an option
to start / stop tomcat as long as it does not support
all architectures of debian.
