Neither file exists on this machine which I am using for mail ATM - and
which has the problem. (Or did when I last tried - must try again given
testing has evolved.)
I was also explicit about the disk parameters in most of the tests.
Of course, if debian has mapped HD to the wrong values, that might
explain everything. At the time, I couldn't find the lower level values
to check. It did have tracks/sectors right, but there is much more
involved in formatting, I know.
