Ok, it turns out that lastfmsubmit.py is considered obsolete upstream, and has in fact way more seriuos problems. In the prepare function, it sets the timeout to submit the current song to something like half the song length or 4 minutes, minus the length of the **previous** song, which is utterly confusing. I guess that this is just due to the plugin being unmaintained for a long time.
