It certainly is not related to RANDR; my guess would be either a gtk+
bug or an issue with the default depth of the virtual server.
I'm not near a Debian setup right now; would you mind trying with
"-screen 0 1280x1024x24" or "-pixdepths 24" as a xvfb-run arg?
