The laptop is a TP 600X (2645-9FU). > Is tpctl still useful to you?
I haven't used it in many months. I last used it to set power-management features such as what happens when the lid is opened or closed. But that was back when I used APM for power management (in my TP 560{,X} days and when I first got the 600X). I've now fixed the 600X's DSDT enough to make ACPI usable, and the ACPI kernel support has improved greatly. Suspending and hibernating don't work as well as with APM, but they are 75% of the way there, and the fan behaves sensibly with ACPI. I'm very happy about the (lack of) fan noise. Since the power-management controls are now (or will be) handled by ACPI, I hardly use tpctl. But don't get me wrong, it has been a very useful tool. I'm still not sure whether the dma issue is caused by tpctl, or whether tpctl just happens to trigger an underlying issue in the dma code. -Sanjoy -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
