You should try to boot with 'usb-handoff' on your kernel command line
but if this was the case your touchpad would't be recognized at all :)

Oh, sorry. I'm re-reading your kernel logs and probably the usb-handoff
or i8042.nomux might really help you:
i8042.c: Detected active multiplexing controller, rev 1.1.
serio: i8042 AUX0 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 AUX1 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 AUX2 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 AUX3 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
This might be the PNP or USB bios that fool the input layer.
Try that boot options (usb-handoff first) and if still doesn't work,
please try the following config modifications.

You're missing a
Load "synaptics"
wrt the sugegsted configuration, but shouldn't be the problem

Try with this configuration and let me know, if it still doesn't work,
could you please run
startx -- -logverbose 8
and send me the resulting log?
