I had one friend whose sound card did not work because hotplug loaded the modem driver before the sound card driver, so I recommended that he add the snd_ prefix to the blacklist entry and now it works fine for him. (I also remember someone complaining about the same problem on debian-user.)
So it seems some people are affected by this bug, but are not aware of its cause. Whether or not it's an alsa-base bug, or a bug that would be more correctly handled somewhere else, though... Do you know what the other distributions do?
(On my system, hotplug seems to load the sound card driver first.)
I'll comment them out in the next release.
