I've tried to look at the diff between 2.6.8 and 2.6.11/12 atyfb driver, and it's pretty huge, so I wasn't able to get any useful information that way. To test whether the problems you are experiencing are due to the wrong MCLK value, you can try setting it by adding a kernel boot argument

video=atyfb:mclk=100

since that worked for 2.6.8. You can also try disabling framebuffer in console completely by adding the boot arguments

video=atyfb:off vga=normal

Please try these options and send the followup to the bug.
